A woman who had been using her television without a license for five years has been ordered to pay £25 a month on her outstanding fine.

Helen Blythe, 49, of High Street, Westbury Leigh had been summoned to court following an outstanding payment of £350 for the use of a television without a licence.

Blythe told North Wiltshire magistrates at Chippenham on Thursday how her husband was currently supporting her on his low income job as she was currently unemployed and had been unable to pay the fine.

The last payment had been made in March 2015 and Blythe, in agreement with her husband offered to pay £10 per month towards the fine, which was later changed to £25 per month following an agreement with the bench.

Chairman of the bench, Mr Gilbert said: “Your payments of £25 per month will start on June 1 and you will be summoned back to court if you do not pay. I will remind you that next time round you will go to prison.”
