RESIDENTS braved the rain in Dilton Marsh over the weekend to take part in the village’s annual scarecrow trail.

With 36 numbered scarecrows scattered around the village, each one dressed up as a character from a nursery rhyme, families used clue sheets to help them locate each one.

All money raised will go towards Dilton Marsh Primary School’s outdoor playground appeal, run by the Friends of Dilton Marsh Primary School, to provide an outdoor learning environment for the school’s pupils.

Jo Lambert, treasurer of the group, said: “Despite getting absolutely drenched on Saturday, it was brilliant fun and a great event for community cohesion.

“It brings lots of different people from the village together. There were people there from a range of generations and we found ourselves bumping into people we hadn’t seen in years which was good fun.

“We stopped off at the church on Saturday and enjoyed a much needed bit of cake and there was also face painting and games for people to play on the village green.

“The outdoor playground will be brilliant for pupils who tend to work better when learning in an outdoor environment so we’re hoping to raise enough money for it through events such as this one.”

Scarecrow trail sheets were purchased for £3 before the event from Dilton Marsh Primary School, Crowning Glory hairdressers, Fairfield Café and the Holy Trinity Church.

Organisers are currently looking over the sheets and the winner of the event is yet to be announced.
