A WESTBURY woman travelled 100km on foot at the weekend to raise money for Mind.

Sarah-Louise Higgins, along with three friends, walked, jogged and ran for a total of 28 hours overnight from Trafalgar Square in London to Brighton, finishing up at the seaside town on Sunday afternoon.

The 23-year-old raised nearly £500 for Mind, which provides support for people with mental health problems, as she struggled to the finish line.

“It was really hard work,” said the occupational therapist, of Matravers Close.

“I decided to raise money for Mind as I want to try and remove the stigma currently associated with talking about mental health.

“When I was 13 I was diagnosed with anorexia, so I know that there’s a big stigma behind it. It’s definitely something people should talk more openly about.

“Around 4,000 people started the walk and only around 1,000 finished. If I had been just doing it for fun I probably would’ve given up but the fact it was for charity kept me going.

“It was mentally challenging but that challenge is something people with mental health issues have to experience every day of their lives.”

Last year, Miss Higgins performed a skydive to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, who assisted her mum Susan after she suffered a stroke.

The expedition was part of the Ultra Challenge, which organises five gruelling challenges each year to raise money for various causes.
