WESTBURY was transformed into a giant street fair on Saturday as families descended on the town to enjoy a range of activities.

Various stalls selling goods, a miniature railway track, funfair rides, a bouncy castle and evening concerts were just some of the things on offer during the bumper day of fun.

Mayor Stephen Andrews officially opened the fair at 10am.

Cllr Andrews said: “It was a very good day and there was an encouraging turnout with lots of people coming from Westbury and surrounding towns.

“The stallholders I spoke to seemed to do quite well from the day and everyone definitely enjoyed themselves, which is what it’s all about.

“The concerts in the evening were very well attended too which was nice to see. I think it was the most people I’ve seen there since we started holding the annual fairs.

“A lot of towns have had to stop doing their fairs due to various reasons so it’s great that we’ve been able to keep ours going.

“It’s clear from the amount of people who came along that they are important events in the community and are enjoyed by all ages.

“It was brilliant to see such a positive turnout and we’re looking forward to next year’s event already.”

The town council used the fair to promote the Blue Plaque Trail, which is a self-guided tour of the town’s 10 heritage buildings.

Town council marketing officer Lilly Bale said: “There was a really positive response to the Blue Plaque Trail.

“We had a stall and handed out leaflets with information about it and people were asking lots of questions about it.

“There wasn’t just interest in the trail, but in the day as a whole. We were blessed with fantastic weather and people of all ages had a great time.”
