STUDENTS at Fairfield Farm have been in celebratory mood lately with both the leavers’ ball and graduation taking place at the college in the space of two weeks.

The graduation ceremony, which took place on Friday, July 15, was kicked off by a speech from Wiltshire councillor Jerry Wickham, before college principal Tina Pagett handed out certificates to students who then enjoyed the evening’s entertainment.

Marketing Manager, Helen Beer, said: “It’s the first year we have had a gowned up graduation at the college with proper scarves and mortarboards.

“All the students had a fantastic time and enjoyed discussing their three years at the college.

“We must say a huge thank you to Knights of Castle Cary, who let us buy ex-hire gowns for the students to wear at a cheaper price.

“It was very emotional for both students and staff.

“We have worked with them for three years and have watched their confidence grow.

“Our job is to prepare them for the next stage of their lives, and their growth in confidence is clear sign that they are ready.”

Of the graduates, who are aged between 19-22, one has landed a job in the college’s maintenance team and four are going into apprenticeships.

Prior to the graduation ceremony, the whole college enjoyed the leavers’ ball on Friday, July 1, where there was a DJ, buffet and bar serving cocktails created by students.

Mrs Beer added: “It was a wonderful occasion. All the students loved celebrating by dancing in their stunning suits and dresses.”
