AS the annual Village Pump Folk Festival approaches, a shop window in Trowbridge has been decorated with memorabilia from the festival by one of its most ardent fans.

This weekend, the finest acts in folk music and beyond will descend on the White Horse Country Park in Westbury along with around 1,500 revellers for the popular knees-up.

To get in the spirit, avid Pump-goer Doreen Pollock has decorated the shop window of Fabric Magic in Trowbridge, where she worked for 12 years, with t-shirts, posters, bunting from the shop and more.

The 68-year-old festival veteran said: “Since the Pump started in 1974 I have only missed two, in 1978 and 1981.

“I met my husband, Alan, at the Pump when it was at The Lamb in 1976 and now we both work there together. He works with the rubbish team and I work in the ticket office or just wherever I’m needed.

“It’s such a brilliant little festival which is why we keep on going. There’s always a great atmosphere and it’s a chance to catch up with old friends, as well as see some fantastic live music, of course.

“Decorating the window of Fabric Magic was great fun, looking through old memorabilia and using materials from the shop to incorporate both the festival and the shop in the display.

“It’s all about encouraging more local people to go along and support their local festival.”

This year’s Village Pump Festival takes place at the White Horse Country Park from July 22-24 with headliners Neville Staples and The Proclaimers.
