PUPILS at Matravers School enjoyed a ‘mini Glastonbury’ on Friday (July 15) to celebrate their academic achievements over the past year.

The action-packed ‘MFest’ featured music and drama performances from pupils, face painting, bouncy castles, a banner competition and more.

Rachael Hodges, deputy head teacher and event organiser, said: “MFest is a reward event for all their hard work and effort and it was very much enjoyed, as it always is.

“It’s also a showcase of their drama and music talents and an opportunity for them to flaunt their talents to a wider audience.

“We invited our feeder schools to come along and they all really enjoyed the day too. Prior to the event they worked with our design department to create willow sculptures, which was a lovely project.

“There was a really nice atmosphere and it was great to have different feeder schools taking part.

“A singer called Jessica Alice was our headliner for the day and a few bands made up of students played who were also brilliant.

“The drama department put on ‘Shakespeare Shorts’ which were little snippets from Shakespeare plays and there was also face painting and bouncy castles.

“Pupils have worked so hard this year so it was lovely watching them all having an amazing day, they have earned it.”

Year 9 were the winners of the banner competition, which involved every year designing a banner based on the school’s core values.

Pupils released balloons with messages attached to them halfway through the day, which has become tradition at the celebratory event.

Year 11 and Year 13 pupils now await their results, which will be published in August.
