ASK any Village Pump fanatic what draws them back to the festival year after year and they will more than likely say it's the atmosphere and range of acts.

Both of those features were on full show at this year’s shindig, which took place over the weekend at the White Horse Country Park, Westbury.

Buoyed by good weather, revellers were in high spirits as acts including The Proclaimers, Neville Staples and Ferocious Dog graced the site with their presence.

Festival Director John Alderslade said: “It was absolutely outstanding this year and everyone went home happy, so no complaints at all.

“Some people thought that Neville Staples and Ferocious Dog weren’t ‘Pump acts’ but they both went down extremely well and had a good time themselves, commenting on how well they were looked after.

“As always, a big thank you must go to the brilliant team of volunteers who give up their time to make the festival run like clockwork.

“Plans are already afoot for next year’s festival. We can’t wait.”

Like every year, people came from far and wide to enjoy one of the finest jewels in Wiltshire’s festival crown, including Eileen Grogan, from Dublin.

The 60-year-old said: “We’ve come over from Ireland for this and the Sidmouth Folk Festival. The Pump is a fantastically well-organised festival and it’s always brilliant. There are so many different accents and cultures, even though it’s relatively small in size.

“We’ve been every year for the past five years which is a very good sign. The atmosphere, range of acts and organisation are the things that make us come back. The weather has been fantastic, which is a big bonus.”

It wasn’t just about the music, with stalls selling various goods, poets performing across the weekend and ‘Haturday’, which involved people wearing their most outlandish headwear on the middle day of the festival

Dennis Wheeler, 66, from Portsmouth, said: “I’ve been to the Pump for five years in a row and we camp every time. It’s wonderful being next to The White Horse, or Clippy as we like to call him in our family, and it’s also a flat site which is unlike lots of other festivals.

“Martin Simpson and Dom Flemons were absolutely brilliant. I’m also looking forward to seeing Merv Grist later tonight, who is a fantastic local performer.

“There’s a really good mix of acts here and thousands of people all enjoying themselves, which is why we keep coming back. We tend to work here because we’re happy to support the event.”
