WESTBURY mayor Stephen Andrews paid a visit to the Westbury Squadron Air Training Corps last Wednesday (July 20).

The squadron, based at the cadet centre in West End Road, recently re-opened after a six month hiatus to the delight of Cllr Andrews, who was a navigator at RAF Lyneham before becoming a councillor.

Cllr Andrews met cadets and staff before taking a tour of the new facilities along with town clerk Deobrah Urch.

Commanding Officer John Gillespie said: “It was great to have the mayor at the Cadet Centre last week, he was very supportive and appeared enthusiastic when told about all the cadet activities we have on offer.

“It’s a very exciting time for us as it’s the 75th anniversary of the corps, so cadets all over the UK and overseas will be involved in celebrations.

“I would encourage people to get involved as it’s a great opportunity to try activities such as flying and gliding, support the community, take fun trips and make new friends.”
