FUNERAL co-ordinators from The Southern Co-operative Funeralcare in Westbury are gearing up for a 10 mile spin-a-thon to raise money for the Cardiac Unit at Bristol's Royal Hospital for Children.

On Friday, August 12 at the Westbury funeral home in Warminster Road, Michelle Meadows and Karen Coleman will take it in turns to cycle and hope to raise a minimum of £40 to help fund their team entrance fee for October’s eight hour Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RCM) Spin-a-thon.

Mrs Meadows said: “Restrictive Cardiomyopathy came to our attention when a local family expressed their intention to raise money for the Cardiac Unit at Bristol’s Royal Hospital for Children following their grandson’s diagnosis of RCM.

“The hospital delivers wonderful care to children in our region so we were naturally very happy to get involved with the spin-a-thon, help the family’s fundraising efforts, and show our appreciation for the hospital’s hard work.”

Staff from The Southern Co-operative Funeralcare in Warminster and Frome will be joining the Westbury women for the RCM Spin-a-thon as a collective team in October and will also be hosting their own 10 mile spin-a-thon at their respective funeral homes on the same day.

Mrs Coleman added: “The August mini spin-a-thon is really a warm up for us all so that we are prepared for the big event in October.

“As one or two of us are past our prime and creaking a little bit we will, of course, need all the encouragement we can get. So, if anyone is passing our branch on the day, please do pop in and cheer us on.”

The official RCM Spin-a-thon will take place on Saturday, October 1 at Bristol’s Millennium Square. The eight hour cycle is hoping to raise a target of £12,000 for the Cardiac Unit (Ward 32).
