AVID horse fan Alfie Waker and his younger brother were rescued from a marina in Bristol by dogs on Sunday.

The 11-year-old, together with his seven-year-old brother Charlie, jumped into the Portishead Quay Marina before being rescued by Newfoundland rescue dogs to raise money for HorseWorld.

This brave feat was Alfie’s fourth fundraising activity for the horse rehousing and rehabilitation charity and the duo's first as ‘Team Chalfie.’

Alfie, of Matravers Way, Westbury, said: “I was a bit nervous before we jumped in we saw a few jellyfish swimming around in the water when we got there.

“We didn’t know what to expect and we weren't sure what temperature the water would be.

“Luckily it wasn’t that cold and the overall experience was really fun. It was really cool being able to do it with my brother and I liked meeting the other people doing the jump too.

“HorseWorld is a really good charity and a great cause which is why I do as much as I can to raise money for them.”

HorseWorld rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes horses that have been abandoned, neglected or ill-treated.

The marina jump on Sunday, August 14, saw a team of 25 horse lovers, including Alfie and Charlie, jump into the water one-by-one before being saved by the trained canines.

Mum Hayley, who watched on from the safety of the land, said: "Their smiles spoke volumes about how much they enjoyed it as they bobbed around in the water.

"It was a really fun day and the weather was beautiful, which meant the water was nice and still.

"Charlie in particular conquered a few major fears by completing the jump.

"Both of them were brilliant and enjoyed it so much."

‘Team Chaflie’ now have their sights set on skydiving or Arctic trekking for their next fundraising adventure.
