DILTON Marsh's Flower and Handicraft Show had its most successful ever year on Saturday, August 13.

The public poured through the doors to view the entries of handicrafts, photographs, fruit, vegetables, preserves, baking and flowers.

The auction of goods that followed allowed the visitors to relax with tea and refreshments as chairman Chris Good brought the hammer down on the many bargains on offer.

One of the organisers, Priscilla Gray, said: “We were very pleased with how it went, there was a good turnout and plenty of good entries with a high standard.

“We have proper judges at our event every year who really know what to look out for when judging flowers.

“The winning entries in particular were beautiful, everyone did themselves proud.

“The auction was good fun too, Chris Good is very good at persuading people to buy things.

“This is a real community event and we’re glad that so many people enjoyed it.”

The event started when the Women’s Institute and Gardening Club decided to host an event eight years ago.

Dilton Marsh Parish Council pays for the hire of the hall.

Pat Nowell was the winner of the prestigious Mead Nursery Cup, which she won for gaining the most points in the flower and floral art classes.

The Iris Hares Cup awarded for the most points gained in the handicraft and photography classes was won by Eunice Stride and the WI Challenge Plate for the best group entry was won by Dilton Marsh WI.

Maureen Flynn was the winner of the John Irving Cup for fruit and vegetables, the Joan Bracken Cup for Cookery and the Amateur Gardening club Cup for the most points overall.
