FILM fanatics will soon have the chance to watch their favourite movies at the pub as a new community film club is launched by three friends.

The Westbury Alley Film Club has been started by Steve Whiston, Julian Phelps and Neil Blanche and will take place in the skittle alley of the Horse and Groom, on the third Tuesday of every month.

In total, the new club will show 10 films per year, with the recently released film based on the UK’s most famous ever skier, Eddie the Eagle, kicking things off on Tuesday, September 20, at 8pm.

Mr Phelps said: “We were all sitting in the pub together around eight months ago when we all decided that we would like to run our own film night.

“After discussing ideas and sorting out licensing business, we are now ready to get it up and going and are all very excited.

“We’ve got plenty of great films to show including Sing Street, which was very well received by critics, a foreign film we’re in the process of finalising and, of course, Eddie the Eagle.

“Westbury doesn’t have a cinema so we hope people will get behind this community project and come along to the first viewing.”

The series will also include a handful of special event films, the first of which will be a horror flick to tie in with Hallowe’en, where people are encouraged to dress up for the occasion.

To get people in the mood for each film, props will be placed around the pub which relate to the title, such as a pair of skis hanging from the wall for Eddie the Eagle.

Bob Musker, owner and landlord of the Horse and Groom, said: “We are really pleased to be involved in this community project.

“If people need sustenance beforehand, the Horse and Groom will have a light supper menu as well as our usual choice of traditional beers.”

The skittle alley has recently been kitted out with new, high-end equipment to make it feel like viewers are in a real cinema.
