AN employee of a truck manufacturing company conquered her fear of heights to take part in a 10,000ft charity skydive.

Rebecca Evel, 32, sets herself annual fundraising challenges and this year decided to tackle her fear of heights at the same time.

The service administrator, who has worked at MAN Truck & Bus Westbury for the past two years, decided to raise money for SOFT UK, which provides support for families affected by Patau’s Syndrome and Edward’s Syndrome.

Mrs Evel, who has so far raised more than £340 for SOFT UK, said: “It is a charity close to my heart, as my family has been affected by this condition – so it is very personal.

“Completing a skydive was something on my ‘bucket list’ as it was a real challenge for me - but I wanted to tackle my fear of heights and push myself to the limit to see how far I could go.”

Rebecca completed the 10,000ft tandem skydive at Salisbury and described the experience as ‘phenomenal’.

“The whole jump took about five minutes but you freefall for 4,000ft in about 20 seconds. It was incredible and I would definitely do it again,” she added.

“We came through the clouds and then had an amazing view of Wiltshire. I could see Stonehenge and Salisbury. It was something I will never forget.”

Last year, she entered a 5km run as part of the Bournemouth Marathon for the Make A Wish Foundation.

She added: “Every year I do something for charity and I am already looking at next year and how I can, not only push myself, but raise money for charity.”
