OVER 100 runners ranging in ability and experience took part in the annual Westbury Lions 10k run on Sunday (October 9).

The race, now in its fifth year, raised well over £1,000 which will be split up and donated to local causes including schools, charities and churches.

Jerry Rayner was the fastest male of the race finishing with a time of 37 minutes and 34 seconds and Karen Hacker was the fastest female in 43 minutes and 22 seconds.

Lion Nigel Coward said: “It was a great success. We had 114 runners in total which is a little less than last year but still an impressive turnout.

“It was nice to see some regular faces as well as some newcomers. Everyone we spoke to afterwards said they were happy with the race and liked the unique atmosphere of the event, which was great to hear.

“As with every Lions event, all the money raised will go back into the local community. We will spend the coming months dealing with everyone’s requests to make sure we donate the money accordingly.”

The fastest male veteran was Gary Hughes, who finished in 38 minutes and 11 seconds, while the fastest female veteran was Judy Schols, who finished in 50 minutes and 55 seconds.

Mr Coward added: “We must extend our thanks to Andrew Hoddinott for his timekeeping services on the day and of course our very own Westbury Lions and Leos who provided marshalling and support.”
