WESTBURY Town Council will have to fork out £675 because Saffron Takeaway has failed to pay for a sign promoting its business on a town roundabout.

The restaurant has failed to pay for three years, which, plus VAT, adds up to £675.

Fifteen firms pay the council a fee to have a sign promoting their business on one of the town’s roundabouts and Saffron Takeaway had a sign on the Gooslands roundabout in the Leigh Park estate, which has since been removed.

The town council contacted the restaurant in Edward Street on numerous occasions and sent letters to the owners asking for the money but it did not respond.

There is no evidence of the agreement which means the council cannot take the business to a small claims court and will have to pay it themselves.

Town clerk Deborah Urch said: “We have since introduced a new system of control to prevent this happening in the future or to enable the town council to pursue debt through the small claims court.”

Saffron Takeaway did not respond to requests for a comment.
