A WOMAN with an aggressive tumour who has been told she has just weeks to live will spend one of her final days enjoying Longleat’s Festival of Light today.

Rebecca McGill, 27, of West End in Westbury, who studied at Sheldon School in Chippenham, was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in July and doctors have said she could die before Christmas.

After learning of the keen knitter’s diagnosis, postman Leander Morales decided he wanted to do something for the family, so he contacted Longleat and asked if the family could visit the Festival of Light for free to which they agreed.

Becky’s mum, Jacky Croucher, said: “Ever since Becky’s diagnosis we’ve been trying to make as many memories for her as possible and have filled every day with fun.

“It was so kind of Leander to go out of his way to contact Longleat and so kind of them to agree to it, we’re all really looking forward to the day.

“As someone who loves animals, a trip to Longleat is the perfect day out for my brave daughter, who has always wanted to see their light festival.

“I’m trying to stay as strong as possible for my family. It was such a shock when she was diagnosed but it’s a case of having to be strong or else I would be a mess.

“She’s always been so caring, she has always put others first and loved volunteering for a number of causes including the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Grassacres Hall in Westbury. She is a real family person and loves her relatives to bits.”

Mrs McGill, who studied catering at Trowbridge College and enjoyed baking cakes for Westbury WI, was diagnosed with angiosarcoma, a cancer which targets the inner linings of blood vessels, after a tumour was found in her neck.

When she was four-and-a-half she fought off a bout of cancer after extensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy and it is suspected that this latest tumour was caused by the aggressive treatment 23 years ago.

Mr Morales said: “When I heard about Becky on my round I thought I had to do something.

“I ran the Longleat idea by Becky’s stepbrother, Shaun, and he said it sounded like a great day out.

“To my surprise Longleat got back to me and said they would let eight of her family go, which was really amazing of them.”

Mrs McGill will go to Longleat today with her husband David, her mum and other relatives.
