PUPILS at Matravers School in Westbury can now study design and technology using a 3D printer, thanks to the generosity of a local business.

The new piece of technology is the first of its kind to be used by students in the Design department, and all year groups including the sixth form will be able to use it, in the hope of inspiring future designers and engineers.

After school sessions will be run to teach the pupils how to operate the machine properly, and how to get the most out of it in their practical studies.

The gift of the printer has come from Nigel Coward, who is also the PR Officer for Westbury Lions, through his business Bajama Limited, a software and IT development company based in Westbury. Another local businessman Matt Maclennan, supported by Crock Harrison from Steve Vick International, from Bradford on Avon, has also donated the essential materials needed to run and maintain the piece of equipment.

Head of Design at Matravers School, Ceri Byrne said: “ We would like to thank Nigel Coward for gifting us the 3D printer and Steve Vick International Ltd for donating the filament to run the machine on.

“Without their generosity, this would have taken a long time to fundraise the money required. So from all the staff and students of the Design department, we say a huge thank you.”
