A WESTBURY woman who effectively died on the operating table has been crowned her Slimming Group’s top performer for the second year in a row.

Loretta Pritchard was diagnosed with ocular cancer in 2012 and had emergency surgery to remove a tumour from her iris.

Her weight led to complications with the anaesthetic and she stopped breathing on the operating table, which meant the crash team had to resuscitate her.

“It was absolutely terrifying, especially for my family who were told I may not be able to breathe on my own ever again,” said the 44-year-old, of Primmers Place.

“It was a massive wake-up call which made me realise I had to lose weight, so I joined the Slimming World group in North Bradley.

“I immediately found that everyone was really helpful and supportive. I was never scrutinised if I had a bad week.

“I’ve had weight problems all my life but with the group’s help I have lost 6.5 stone in two years and feel far more confident. I need to lose another 1.5 stone before I hit my next target.”

Mrs Pritchard dropped from 24st 9lb to 18st 2lb last year and this year lost an additional stone.

She has also joined the group’s shop team and sells Slimming World products to members at every meeting.

“This year I’ve just been maintaining my weight and toning up before getting going again next year," she explained.

“I have a back injury which means I can’t exercise that heavily but I really enjoy cycling and try to do a 30-mile course every Sunday.

“What I really like about the group is that it’s more like a lifestyle change than a strict diet and you’re allowed to eat some of your favourite foods, but in moderation.

“For that reason I strongly recommend Slimming World to anyone as it fits in with everyday life and you can lose weight sensibly.”

Slimming World consultant Sarah Dearden said: “I am so proud of Loretta, she has really turned her life around.

“She never used to cook but now she knocks up the most amazing meals from scratch using wholesome ingredients. I am so privileged to be able to help her on her journey, she really is an inspiration.”
