A TROWBRIDGE joinery has brightened up the main road into Edington by building a new flower box to replace one which was destroyed in December.

After hearing that the box which decorated the way into the village in Lower Road had been damaged by a passing motorist, All Aspect Architectural Joinery got in touch with Edington & District Gardening Club to say they would like to replace it.

The box was made from old offcuts of wood and took two employees of the Marsh Farm company two days to make.

Finance director of All Aspect, Margaret Hart, said: “After reading that the box had been destroyed in Edington I thought it sounded like something the company could help with by making a new box from old offcuts of wood.

“I went down to have a look at it and while I was there I bumped into someone from the village, who gave me the number of Jacky Hiscock, chairman of the village’s gardening club.

“I gave her a call and ran the idea by her and she was delighted, so we got to work making the box.

“As well as doing a good deed for the community this was also an opportunity to let people know about the business, which is now one year old.”

After the incident, bits of mangled car bumper were left at the scene, which is next a sign welcoming drivers to the village with ‘Please drive carefully’ written on. Around a tonne of soil was tossed from the box.

Jacky Hiscock, chairman of Edington & District Gardening Club, said: “We were delighted when Margaret got in touch and said the company would like to replace the box, we're very grateful.

“We could have repaired the damaged one ourselves but it would have been expensive and time consuming.

“We hope people enjoy looking at it as they drive into Edington.”
