WESTBURY Morrisons has donated £21,500 to a charity which works with children who have experienced domestic abuse.

Splitz, which supports children in Trowbridge, Westbury and Melksham, applied to the Morrisons Foundation for funding, and the cheque was then sent to the store’s community champion, Lisa Litterick, to hand over.

Fran Lewis MBE, Splitz executive director, said: “We are thrilled to receive this wonderful donation towards our Buddy Scheme.

“This will enable us to take care of our volunteers to the same high standard as our paid employees and will enable us to continue to provide training, recruitment and support to our buddies for the next year.

“Our volunteers are a most precious resource who make a significant difference to the lives of many families in Wiltshire.

“During the last year over 100 families benefited from this mentoring and befriending service enabling them to live their lives free from fear and overcome their many challenges and difficulties.

“All our beneficiaries are people with experience of domestic abuse and this service gives them someone they can talk with confidentially on a regular basis.

"We have also learned that volunteering makes a significant difference to the lives of our volunteers because their self esteem and confidence grows through providing help and support to others. Several have recently moved on into paid employment in our community."

The supermarket also gave £341 to Cancer Research after a member battled cancer in 2015.
