A PLANNING application to build up to 47 homes just off Bratton Road in Westbury has been refused by Wiltshire Council.

The application, submitted to Wiltshire Council in July 2016 by developer RE Nevill, received a total of 25 complaints from residents, many of whom raised concerns that it would create an urban sprawl and fell outside Westbury's settlement boundaries.

In Wiltshire Council’s decision letter it states: “The site is located in open countryside outside the limits of development defined for Westbury in the Wiltshire Core Strategy.”

The letter also goes on to say that the application fails to demonstrate how the social and economic dimensions of sustainable development listed in the National Planning Policy Framework, which sets out the government's planning policies for England.
