WESTBURY Leigh Primary School hosted an e-safety competition last week to celebrate Safer Internet Day.

The competition, which took place on Tuesday, February 7, was open to all primary schools in Wiltshire to celebrate the positive uses of the internet and mobile technology.

All pupils were given a brief to design and create an animation, app, game, video or poster with an e-safety message and promote the best uses of digital technology.

Assistant headteacher of Westbury Leigh, Nicky Newbury, said: “All of the winners are excellent ambassadors for spreading the online safety message to their peers and beyond.

“The winning entries were shining examples of computing and computing unplugged and my thanks go to the donators of prizes and the teachers and children who made this event so enjoyable.”

There were over 60 entries from the schools which all highlighted the positive aspects of sharing online as well as the dangers of inappropriate sharing.

Natalie Luckham, who owns social media consultancy Naturally Social, was called in to pick the winners.

Amy Wheeler, of Westbury Leigh, won the award for the best e-safety game, Eloise Dorman of Westbury Juniors was the winner of the movie category while Halima Khanom, also of Westbury Juniors, created the best animation in the eyes of Miss Luckham.
