A PUPIL from Westbury Junior School has found the back of the net with his football kit design, which has won a Wiltshire-wide competition.

Thomas Smith, who has Asperger’s, found out he had won the competition at the beginning of December and presented it to his fellow classmates at a school assembly on Friday (February 10).

The striking kit, which has been manufactured by Trident Sports, will be worn by the school’s football team at its upcoming fixtures.

Mum Sarah, 42, of Danvers Way, a teaching assistant at Westbury Infant School, said: “Thomas likes his football and he’s also into drawing so this competition was perfect for him.

“He was absolutely delighted when he found out he had won; it’s a huge achievement for him.

“Of course we were incredibly proud of him too.

“It was quite emotional watching him stand up at the front of assembly and present his design because he struggles with social situations.

“So for him to do that was absolutely massive and it was great for me and my husband, Tim, to see."

Entry forms were handed out to primary schools in Wiltshire by One Stop and the best entries were then posted on the shop’s Facebook page.

Thomas’s blue design picked up the most ‘likes’ by Facebook users so he made it through to the next round, which involved designing another shirt online, which was then picked out by kit manufacturer Trident Sports as the most impressive design.

Thomas, who has one sister named Bethany, said he felt “very proud” to have won and is looking forward to seeing it in action.
