THE mayor of Westbury presented the money he has raised over the past year to his two chosen charities.

Cllr Stephen Andrews picked Carer Support Wiltshire and Welfare For The Elderly as the two charities he would like to support at the start of his tenure and organised a range of fundraising events to boost funds.

In total he, with the help of the town council and local community, raised £4,338 which was split evenly and presented to the two charities on Friday.

Cllr Andrews said: “I was delighted to present cheques to my two charities, which I have been supporting during my mayoral year.

“Both of these charities do an immense amount of good and very often unseen work for the Westbury community and I have been delighted to support them this year.

“I would like to thank all those people who have helped with the fund raising, particularly my wife Mary, the mayoress, who took the lead in organising these events.

“I would also like to thank all those people and organisations who gave so generously to help me raise this fantastic amount of money.”

The money was raised with community events including a charity quiz and a charity auction, along with various raffles.

Money was also raised from the sale of the mayor’s calendar, which was made up of photographs of the town sent in by residents of Westbury.

Representatives from both charities thanked the community and mayor for their efforts as they received their cheques at The Laverton.
