A SWIMMING pool will not be built on the outskirts Dilton Marsh after a planning application was refused by Wiltshire Council.

The council refused the development in Clivey on the grounds its location is not sustainable as it is outside the village and has no public transport links, which would mean visitors and employees would have had to travel to it by car.

It was also felt that the development would not ‘conserve or enhance the landscape character of the area’ and would be ‘harmful to the character of the surrounding countryside’.

The application, submitted by Zoe Brine, received 72 representation letters from local residents, many of whom supported the application, saying they were excited by the prospect of a new swimming pool in the area.

However, Cllr Jerry Wickham had his doubts about it.

He said: “My belief is that the planning application was contrary to Wiltshire Council's policy and the case officer I spoke with doubted its criteria.

“It’s in a location which isn’t served by a footpath or public transport and my concern was that it didn’t adhere to the core strategy.”
