MORE than 300 residents in Edington experienced ‘all the fun’ at the annual village summer fair – including a Wild West shoot-out by a re-enactment team.

They watched two 30-minute shows in a mini Wild West town put together by The Lawmen re-enactment team from Bristol.

They included brawls and gun fights inside and outside the town saloon, the OK Corral and a ‘Boot Hill’ graveyard. Some of those who survived the guns and fake bullets found themselves locked up in jail.

The shoot-outs among the 20-strong team – which included men, women and children – all took place on the village park behind the Three Daggers pub in the centre of the village.

Organising committee member Vanessa Lescott said: “The Wild West shows were full of humour, loud bangs and canon fire as the outlaws battled with the town sheriffs.”

The Red Cross were on hand to treat any ‘walking wounded’ and other attractions included a demonstration and a ‘hoe down’ flashmob dance by the Handbell Club at the Holy Trinity CE Primary Academy School from Great Cheverell.

Residents also organised a stocks with felt water sponges, splat the rat, a coconut shy, plant and pot stalls, a book stall, white elephant stall and plate smashing.

There was also a barbecue and other stalls featured candy floss, popcorn, crafts and a raffle. Prizes included a £50 voucher, a hamper from the village shop and a bottle of champagne.

Mrs Lescotts aid: “The fair looked to be very busy and great fun and we were very lucky with the weather this year.

“It was cloudy and windy in the morning but by 2pm the sun had come out.”

Organisers hope to raise more than £1,000, which will be split between various local charities including St Mary, St Katherine and All Saints’ Church, the two village schools, the Under Fives group and Edington Gardening Club.
