THE ‘sky is the limit’ for a Fairfield Farm College student after he beat some of the biggest talents in the country at the National Youth Disability Athletics.
Mitch Brown, who has learning disabilities, was one of only eight young people that qualified to represent the South at the competition which was held at Warwick University.
Although he had only competed a handful of times, the 17-year-old stormed to second place in the T20 learning disabilities 100m event and came fourth in the 200m and 400m as well.
Principal of the college, Tina Pagett, was full of praise for Mitch and she believes he has a very bright future ahead of him.
“What he achieved for someone who has only raced a few times before is incredible.
“Everyone here is so impressed by his amazing accomplishments,” she said.
“Earlier in the year our sports coordinator at Fairfield, Rachel Bown, recognised his ability and entered him into the regional athletic trials in Exeter and such was his success he made it to the nationals.
“I am so proud of what he has done but really, if he can build on this, the sky is the limit for Mitch. He took a staggering 12 seconds off his 400m from just a few months ago which is brilliant. He beat some very talented athletes out there.
“What is so great is that his confidence just shot up. He sometimes lacks self belief but hopefully this has shattered that as it shows if you apply yourself you can achieve anything.
“Mitch had a brilliant
time and he has a huge future in front of him. We will do everything we can to make that possible.
“Rachel said he has a big future in athletics and I definitely agree with her.”
