DESPITE the snow and bad weather, over 80 people took part in a 3K Christmas fun run at Leighton Recreation Centre to raise money for Westbury Lions.

The race, run by Redfish Events, was very nearly cancelled after several inches of snow fell in Swindon and the surrounding areas causing some runners difficulty getting to Westbury.

After discussing with the owners at the recreation centre, they decided to go ahead with the event, and over £200 was raised.

Redfish Events director, Tracey Hyde said: "Everyone was so motivated despite the bad weather.

"We had wind, rain and even hail, but when we said people could skip laps to avoid getting so wet they said they were determined to complete the full distance.

"I would like to thank Leighton Recreation Centre and Morrisons Westbury for donating chocolate bars for all the finishers.

"Also thank you to Westbury Lions for bringing Father Christmas along in his sleigh."

A cheque will be officially presented to Westbury Lions in January.
