WESTBURY library remains closed after damage was caused to the roof due to high winds yesterday afternoon (January 4).

In the aftermath of storm Eleanor which has hit the country in the last few days, part of the roof of the old 1800's building was left flapping in the wind.

It is believed to be the flashing and apex parts of the roof which were damaged.

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: “Westbury Library is currently closed due to damage to the roof, caused by Storm Eleanor.

"We have closed the library to ensure our customers’ safety and have instructed contractors to carry out urgent repairs to the Grade II-listed building.

"The library will remain closed tomorrow (Saturday) and the situation will be reviewed on Monday.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our customers is paramount.

"Anyone who wishes to renew books can do so online, or by calling the 24-hour renewal line on 08444 142270. Customers can also use nearby Wiltshire Council libraries in Trowbridge and Warminster.”
