WESTBURY based specialised furniture company Theraposture appeared on an episode of DIY SOS on Thursday night when they donated a specialised bed as part of the show’s interior design makeover for a disabled client.

Former athlete Amanda Worne, 46, was left with a severe spinal injury following an high speed collision on her bike while she was training.

Mrs Wome spent five and a half months in hospital and underwent two major operations.

Now that she is slowly rebuilding her strength, she has found her home to be unsuitable in coping with her disability, and turned to BBC One programme DIY SOS to transform her house in Yapton to suit her mobility needs.

As part of this transformation, Theraposture agreed to handcraft a double combination bed with profiling variable height functionality on each side to benefit Mrs Worne and her husband.

The profiling gives postural support to Mrs Worne when sitting up and she can raise her legs to manage pressure and circulation issues.

Sales director at Theraposture Liam Bradell said: “We were so pleased to be able to help Amanda out with her bed, and it has made such a difference to her life and helped her significantly with managing her disability.

“Amanda is just one of the people we help, and its very rewarding to see our products making a difference.

“We also made the bed very colourful to match the rest of the colour scheme created by the programme’s interior designers.

“We hope to carry out a case study on Amanda to put on our website to show how she has been getting on with the bed since we first donated it.”

Mrs Worne said: “My Theraposture bed has made a massive difference to my life. I can now sit up without having to struggle.

“It also means I can use the bed to elevate my feet. When you have a spinal injury, your circulation is quite harboured in a lot of ways so this elevation helps any fluid disperse.

“When I had my old bed I would lie awake at night, unable to get comfortable.

“I would sometimes resort to getting out of bed and sitting in my shower chair just so I could change my position.

“Now I can move myself at the touch of a button.

“This bed is an absolutely vital part of my life transition.”
