WESTBURY library has been closed for over a week after high winds caused damage to the roof.

In the aftermath of Storm Eleanor, which hit the country last week, part of the roof of the 19th-century building was left flapping in the wind.

It is believed that the flashing on the apex of the roof was damaged.

Wiltshire Council announced it would reopen tomorrow, Thursday 11 January, but has now said it will remain shut until further notice.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Council said: “ Westbury Library is currently closed due to damage to the roof, caused by Storm Eleanor.

“ We have closed the library to ensure our customers’ safety and have instructed contractors to carry out urgent repairs to the Grade II-listed building.

“The library will remain closed tomorrow until further notice.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our customers is paramount.” Anyone who wishes to renew books can do so online, or by calling the 24-hour renewal line on 08444 142270.”
