Rapist jailed indefinitely

A FATHER-OF-TWO has been sent to prison indefinitely today after he was found guilty of raping a woman in her own bed.

Daniel Morgan, 27, of Bitham Mill in Westbury, was found guilty of rape by a jury at Swindon Crown Court in July.

He carried out the attack after breaking into the woman’s home in Bitham Mill on January 27 this year.

But he was given an indefinite term of Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) at Swindon Crown Court and was told he must serve at least four years inside before being considered for parole.

If and when he is released, he will be on licence for another 10 years.

Judge Stuart Jones said: “You will not be released unless and until the parole board considers you not to be a danger.”

After he was sentenced Morgan stood up and said: “Can I say something Your Honour? I’m deeply sorry for what happened and I know my sorrow would never be accepted by the victim and I wouldn’t expect her to.”

Jailed for an indefinate period and in the same breath on license for 10 years after release.
I've looked indefinite up in my dictionary... it's all so bloody wrong.
It's such a broad term for what should be a precise sentance.

The more I think about this the more irrational it seems.
Is this licence like a TV licence, a fishing licence or road fund tax licence...
Does he get some credit card sized ID that allows him to do something special in the eyes of the law?
I have no faith in this sentance at all.

i suppose it depends how well he behaves w hilst in the nick,, if he is sorry and if he has done anything like this before...and probably more importantly do they t hink he will re offend when or if released
i feel if they say 5 years prison then it should be 5 years...life should mean life...no time off for good behaviour..they have done bad, been found guilty and then should do the time they have been given...

They have given him an indefinate jail sentence because he is a danger to women and shows no remorse for what he has done. An apology cannot be accepted if he can't accept to himself what he has done.

Has for him not getting a set time jail sentence means that instead of at the end of that time, he gets out and walks the streets again, he won't be released until he's no longer considered a danger. The sentence given is the better decision.

An 18yr old boy gets 3yrs 7months for cutting a mans face yet a rapist WITH previous convictions gets IPP(indefinate sentence) but only has to serve a minimum of 4yrs, what a pathetic sentence!!

That 18yr old will only do half of that! Daniel Morgan got 8yrs not 4yrs. He goes against the panel after 4yrs not gets released like he would have done without the IPP.

Sorry i should correct that and say the IPP over ruled the sentence he would have got which was 8yrs.

Some people go to jail and come out worse or the same...he will not be released if still considered a danger to the public so he could be in there a very long time which is better than him being let out just because he's done the minimum time.

IPP means u do the full sentence given in court & a longer period on licence. His sentence given in court was 4yrs minimum n 10 on licence, it doesn't say anything about an 8yr sentence if he didn't get IPP. He should of been given life imprisonment with 10+ yrs minimum like a murderer would of because he's a scumbag at the end of the day!

Daniel morgan also has previous for attacking a 13yr old girl & armed robbery up north so with previous convictions like that how this sentence will ever be justified i do not know!

You are so rapped up in your own world that you can't accept other peoples opinions. Ha ha defending the rapist you say...and for the comment you say about thinking about the poor woman, i am the woman so stop having a go and accept that he's off the streets and away from your family and friends please because i wasn't that lucky.

Stop and think about what you say in future.
