Westbury trading estate business suffers arson attack

Police were called to a suspicious fire started by two black-clad men at a vehicle yard in the West Wilts Trading Estate on Thursday last week.

The car fire, at a business in Headquarters Road, was spotted by a security guard at about 9.30pm, and the offenders, described as two males around 5’11’’ tall, made off.

The fire service were called and extinguished the flames, which had not spread beyond the vehicle.

Despite similarities with a fire which destroyed the nearby JP Jones Autospares scrap yard back in May, police say there is nothing to link the two incidents.

Inspector Lindsey Winter said: “There is nothing to suggest that this business may have been deliberately targeted, and circumstances lead us to believe this is anti-social behaviour from youths.

“The consequences could have been just as severe and dangerous however, with a business ruined and considerable disruption to surrounding businesses.

“Fortunately the fire was spotted in time.”

May’s blaze, which started from three separate fires set around the yard in Quartermaster Road, is still unsolved.
