Bratton man's French trek for Help for Heroes

BRATTON cyclist Evan Fuery is undertaking a ‘piste to plage’ ride from St Foy in the Alps to Nice next week to raise funds for a hydrotherapy wing at Tedworth House.

He and the rest of the group have already raised enough for a hydrotherapy pool at the rehabilitation centre, run by Help for Heroes, and hope to cover the whole facility.

The 450km ride, starting on Thursday, includes 27,500ft of climbing, equivalent to the height of Mount Everest.

Mr Fuery is also organising a talk at All Hallows School in Cranmore, Shepton Mallet, on Saturday, titled ‘On the Shoulders of Giants: Mount Everest and the South Pole’ to raise funds for the charity.

The speakers are soldiers Mark Langridge, who was part of the 2011 Scott-Amundsen Centenary race to the South Pole, and Sundeep Dhillon, the youngest person in the world to climb the highest peaks in seven continents.

Mr Fuery said: “Mark and Sundeep have remarkable stories to tell, and they have seen at first hand the injuries experienced and the rehabilitation required to get soldiers back in shape.

“Our combined efforts will help provide a much-needed facility for our recovering heroes.”
