Top chefs tickle taste buds in regional competition
4:04pm Tuesday 30th October 2012 in Wiltshire
Top chefs across the region have served up a treat in the South West Chef of the Year 2012 competition.
Last night (Monday), an awards ceremony took place at ABode in Exeter honouring this year's winners.
Michael Tweedie, junior sous chef from Lucknam Park, in Bath took the South West Chef of the Year title in the professional class and Elly Wentworth, demi chef de partie of The Manor Hotel in Castle Combe, won the young professional class.
Both winners beat a selection of other hopefuls in a series of culinary events which took place over two months.
Head judge, Michael Caines MBE, said: "The quality of this year’s competition was the highest we have seen in the nine years since it began. The finals were extremely closely contested by some incredibly skillful chefs.
"This competition identifies some of the most talented chefs in the South West and highlights the quality of the region’s hospitality industry.”
