The Royal British Legion's Wiltshire Poppy Appeal was launched at Salisbury Racecourse on Friday.

Major Erica Bridge, senior instructor at the Young Officer's Branch, Royal School of Artillery, rode a retired horse eventer called Poppy Appeal to launch the event, jumping over a fence decorated with poppies.

A number of local dignitaries attended, including the Royal British Legion county president, General Sir Jack Deverell, and the chairman of Wiltshire Council, Coun Christine Crisp.

Sir Jack announced that the theme of the launch was “they're pinning all their hopes on you” and urged people in the county to stand shoulder to shoulder with the whole armed forces community and recognise the courage of service families.
