Man arrested after reversing into police car and speeding off

A police officer was slightly hurt when a man allegedly reversed his car into the front of a police vehicle in Warminster town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The patrol car was considerably damaged at the front and nearside after the incident with a black Mercedes saloon car in Weymouth Street at 2.45am The woman officer inside it suffered minor injuries.

Police later arrested Ross Fleming at his home in Linnet Lane, Melksham, and charged him with driving while disqualified, criminal damage, aggravated vehicle taking, assault on police and driving a vehicle dangerously.

The 35-year-old appeared before Chippenham magistrates on Monday and was remanded until a trial date, which is scheduled for February.

Inspector Lindsey Winter said: “This was a particularly nasty incident which resulted in significant damage to property and injury to a police officer.”
