Comic Relief leaping into action with dinosaurs, facepaint and food fun

Students competed in a food endurance test to support Comic Relief, as fundraisers planned other Red Nose events across Wiltshire for today.

The Wiltshire College Trow-bridge campus asked competitors to pay £2.50 and others to donate at Tuesday’s event.

Seven participants battled through challenges from eating a tomato whole, eating three dry Weetabix with hands behind backs, eating 10 dry crackers dry to drinking red shakes.

The final – between Elliott Humphrey, 20, and Michael Beagles, 19 – was to eat as many doughnuts as they could and it was Michael who tasted glory as the champion.

Organiser Chloe Lambdin, a student liaison officer, said: “I would like to thank all those who came along and took part and who made a donation.”

For You Massage held a cake sale and coffee morning at Southwick Village Hall last Friday, while Sainsbury’s has been invaded by a giant dinosaur nose made by its Trowbridge charity co-ordinator, Andi Caswell.

She said: “It took me about 40 hours to make and the kids in the store have really loved seeing it. We have lots planned for Red Nose Day and I’d like to thank Airofreem, which donated foam for the costume.”

Staff at the store, in British Row, will wear fancy dress for events, including a dance competition, a car wash and bag pack from 9am to 5pm today.

Other branches will get involved, including Bradford on Avon, with facepainting by beautician Lisa Williams between 2pm and 5pm.

Staff at Omni Media, Box, will cycle a combined 202 miles today, to virtually visit nine clients while also tweeting.

Tumble Tots will have a dinosaur activity morning and a treasure hunt.
