WOMAD organisers have announced their latest acts confirmed for this year’s festiva, including veteran reggae stars Toots and the Maytals.

The festival returns this summer to Charlton Park in Malmesbury, from Thursday to Sunday, July 25 to 28, and tickets are already on sale.

A festival favourite, Toots Hibbert and band are expected to belt out hits including Monkey Man, Funky Kingston and Pressure Drop.

Rock band The Heavy, who originate from Bath, are among those listed.

The Heavy performed on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2010, and were the first to be asked by Letterman to perform an encore on his show.

Seun Kuti, son of afrobeat pioneer Fela, will front his late father’s band Egypt 80.

Steel-pan player Fimber Bravo (Trinidad), who has recently been working with Hot Chip, is to appear as are Adjágas (Norway); The Bombay Royale (Australia/India); Carminho (Portugal); Christine Salem (Réunion); Dizu Plaatjies and Ibuyambo Ensemble (South Africa);

Other artists announced are Flavia Coelho (Brazil); Hidden Orchestra (UK); Iadoni (Georgia); Jesca Hoop (USA); Katy Carr & The Aviators (UK); Malouma (Mauritania); Mohammad Reza Mortazavi (Iran); Riot Jazz Brass Band (UK); Spoek (South Africa); Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys (USA); YesKing (UK).

Already announced as performing at WOMAD are Gilberto Gil, Rokia Traoré, Alice Russell, David Rodigan MBE, Asif Ali Khan, Bwani Junction, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, David Wax Museum, Debrapriya & Samanwaya, Dub Inc, Emel Mathlouthi, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Fredy Massamba, GOCOO, Huun Huur Tu, Jagwa Music, Kissmet, Le Vent Du Nord, Lévon Minassian, Mala In Cuba, Malawi Mouse Boys, Mokooma, Nano Stern, Ondatrópica, Osibisa, Sam Lee & Friends, Schlachthofbronx, Syd Arthur, Tamikrest and Urna & Kroke.

Further artists will be announced soon.

This year’s festival will welcome back the Taste The World stage, where artists performing in the line-up are invited to prepare native dishes for audiences.

During the weekend youngsters can join the festival’s workshops and activities in the World of Children area. On the Sunday afternoon creations will be presented by their makers in the children’s parade, which will snake its way through the site.

Wiltshire Police challenged the legality of the licence granted for last year’s WOMAD music festival after failing to reach an agreement over special policing. The issue was resolved for this year’s festival at a meeting in December.
