Wiltshire’s Liberal Democrat MEP Sir Graham Watson is visiting the county today as part of the South West MEP’s campaign for the European elections.

He will meet constituents in three towns in his first official day campaigning following the final European Parliament session in Strasbourg this week.

Sir Graham will be in Chippenham until 2pm before heading to Royal Wootton Bassett for 2.30pm.

He is due to be in Trowbridge at 5.30pm.

The West Country will go to the polls on Thursday, May 22, to decide who is to represent Britain in the next European Parliament, in a vote that is being billed as an in/out vote on our membership of the EU.

Ahead of his visit, Sir Graham said: "The Liberal Democrats want Britain to stay in the EU because we are fighting to protect the 360,000 jobs across the South West that depend on our trade with Europe.”

“An incredible 59 per cent of the West’s exports go to Europe, higher than the national average.”

“Those who are calling for a British exit of the EU have to face up to the fact that they would put thousands of jobs at risk.”

“Being in the EU also makes our streets safer, as it means that our police forces have access to key EU crime-fighting measures. Crime crosses national borders, and so must our police and magistrates.

“And being in Europe is also about working together to tackle climate change and other environmental threats. We will solve them together, or not at all.”
