An impressive £40,000 has been shared among 20 charities across Wiltshire thanks to this year’s Bowood charity dog show and summer fair, held with the Tractor Ted farm show.

Around 12,000 people enjoyed the sunshine at Bowood on June 8, with hundreds of dogs parading on the lawns of Lord and Lady Lansdowne’s stately home.

The show has attracted almost 100,000 people since it started in 2006.

Lady Lansdowne said: “We are truly thrilled to be donating £40,000 from this year’s dog show and summer fair.

“It was such a beautiful sunny day and a wonderful occasion for families – this year’s show had the best atmosphere and felt the friendliest of all those that we’ve held since 2006.”

The charities, selected by Lord and Lady Lansdowne and the show committee, include Age UK Wiltshire, Calne Welfare Charities, Derry Hill PPC, RNLI (Wiltshire), Hope for Tomorrow, Springboard Opportunity Group and Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust.

Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust helps elderly or disabled people who have been victims of break-ins.

Jennie Shaw, fundraising director of the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, said: “We had a donation of £5,500, which means 60 homes in Wiltshire can be made safe.”

Claire Cosgrove from Hope for Tomorrow, which received £4,500, said: “It was a privilege to be there; in terms of awareness it’s a brilliant shop window.”

Hope for Tomorrow will put the money towards the upkeep of the new North Wiltshire mobile chemotherapy unit based in Swindon.

The date for next year’s show has been set as June 7.
