Fundraising activities are going on across Wiltshire today, with the students of Wiltshire College in Trowbridge among those doing their bit for the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal.

Beauty therapy students created nail art in the Common Room on Wednesday, but all students have been encouraged to attend college in fancy dress today, either in superhero costumes or pyjamas.

Cake sales have been held and the beauty therapy students will be staging a leg waxing event on Monday, in a bid to surpass the £300 raised by the college last year for Children in Need.

The Hot Chilli Triathlon Club in Trowbridge starts a 24-hour challenge at 4pm today, with members heading to Trowbridge Sports Centre for the swimming section, then Tesco in County Way for running and cycling.

Membership secretary Darren Phillips said: “We like to do something every year for Children in Need, but this year we have upped the mileage, so it’s a big challenge.

“The swim will start at Trowbridge Sports Centre at Clarendon, with lots of the junior clubs also joining in, and the aim is for them to cover the equivalent distance of swimming the Channel.

“Some of our members will be doing all of it and some will be dipping in and out, but the kids will be doing it in a relay format.

“The run will then be the equivalent of London to Paris and the cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats.

“Anyone who wants to come along and show their support or contribute to the running or cycling will be very welcome.”

Schools across the county are backing Children in Need, with pupils at Melksham Oak, The Manor CofE Primary, Forest and Sandridge School, Shaw CofE Primary, Rivermead Primary and Aloeric Primary in Melksham, The Mead Primary School in Trowbridge, Holt and Westwood schools dressing up in line with this year’s official Children in Need superheroes theme, and others holding non-uniform days and cake sales.

Youngsters at Tumble Tots classes have also dressed up and had fun for the appeal.
