READERS wanting to support the Wiltshire Times/Salvation Army’s Christmas Toy Appeal can leave their donations at the Trowbridge Tesco store from tomorrow.

People can drop off unwrapped gifts that will make a massive difference to lives of needy children this Christmas at the store on County Way, as well as at other shops in the area and the Wiltshire Times office in Duke Street.

The Christmas Toy Appeal works with Social Services to allow hard-up parents in Wiltshire to have the joy of giving their youngsters new toys.

Oliver Morris, customer service manager at Tesco, said: “For Tesco Trowbridge to be able to support the community is fantastic.

“It is all about using our scale for good and that’s all about supporting the families, that’s why we are part of the Salvation Army’s Christmas present appeal.

“For people who want to donate, they can bring them to the customer service desk or when they are shopping they can drop them off and we will hold them here for them and it’s as easy as that.”

Salvation Army Major Kelvin Lang is delighted the appeal has the backing of the supermarket. He said: “Year after year they are willing. We appreciate it, we really do.

“People do care, the generosity of the public is astounding. We are flabbergasted every year by people so willing to give extra to help somebody else. The generosity shows how kind people really are.

“We look forward to this time of the year... the ideal situation is that we wouldn’t need to do the appeal.”

Donations can be toys, games and books for children aged up to 16, which must be new and in good condition. Financial donations are also welcome.
