THERE’S just two days left to drop off donations for the Wiltshire Times’ Toy Appeal to help put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas.

All toys donated will go to families in need in and around Trowbridge and be delivered by social services in the week before Christmas.

Major Kelvin Lang from the Trowbridge Salvation Army, which is co-ordinating the appeal, said he was overjoyed with the response saying: “It’s been a really good response so far which we are grateful for; people still have to December 14 to donate.”

“We will then start collecting and our volunteeers will sort the toys, ready for them to be delivered in the build-up to Christmas.

“The social service workers were astounded by the amount last year and it’s the generosity of the public that allows this to happen, so hopefully it will be the same this year.”

Donations must be new and in their original packaging and can range from toys and games to books, for girls and boys up to 16 years old.

So far donated gifts include cuddly toys, skateboards, books and puzzles which will be given to parents who cannot afford to buy gifts to wrap for their children.

Customer service manager at Tesco Oliver Morris said: “Our trolley is at the front of the store next to our Christmas tree and we’re now on the fifth one, they’ve been overflowing with presents.

“It been really well received. I think people like the fact that they can just come to the front of the store and drop things off.

“This is a really good way for us to help out the community and it’s something that the community has really got behind.

“We’ve had a variety of toys left from Lego to Frozen dolls. People have left nice toys that children whose parents can’t perhaps afford gifts would really want.”
