TIME is running out for people to nominate police staff, officers and others who have performed well for a special award.

The closing date for nominations for this year’s Neighbourhood Policing Awards, organised by the the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, is looming on Thursday, April 2.

And the PCC, Angus Macpherson, urged people to submit their nominations.

"We’ve already had some excellent nominations, but I really want to encourage a lot more entries from across the area served by Wiltshire Police," he said.

“There is still time for you to pay tribute to the men and women who offer exceptional service to your community.”

Police officers, police staff, members of the Special Constabulary and other volunteers who have made an exceptional contribution to a neighbourhood can be put forward in one of four categories; Neighbourhood Policing Team of the Year, Police Community Support Officer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Police Officer of the Year.

Mr Macpherson added: “The idea is to recognise those who have made a great contribution to making their communities a safer place.

“I believe communities can play a vital part in policing and reducing crime through greater levels of ownership and volunteering. These awards help to promote various watch schemes like Neighbourhood Watch, Farm Watch and Community Speed Watch.

“I look forward to police officers and staff being nominated for ‘going the extra mile’ to support people in their community.

“I will relish reading the positive stories from those who have nominated these individuals and teams.”
