TRAIN operator First Great Western has been forced to issue an apology after a member of staff made an inappropriate onboard announcement.
Last week a number of trains were held up after someone was hit by a train between Slough and Reading, with services through Swindon among those cancelled or delayed due to the incident.
On a train waiting to get into Plymouth Station, a member of staff said the cause of the delay was because someone “couldn’t be bothered to live anymore.”
Shocked passengers complained to FGW saying the announcement had been “callous” and showed no thought.
In statement, a spokesman for the company apologised for the remark and any distress caused.
He said: “We expect high standards from our onboard teams, who are trained to make clear announcements about delays.
“When this involves a fatality this should be done with sensitivity and care.
“We’re sorry for any distress caused to customers and can confirm that this incident is under investigation.”
