West Wiltshire Randonners joined with French walkers from Sully sur Loire for a weekend of walking in the Baie de Somme. Staying in Cayeau sur Mer the 38 walkers enjoyed a day exploring a large bird sanctury watching a stork with 3 chicks among other birds. The highlight of the trip was our walk accross the Baie de Somme. Only 3K as the bird flies but it was between 6 and 7K to follow our guide on a safe route. It included wading through a river, crossing soft and very firm sand and mud and sand dunes covered in assorted vegatation with some steep and slippery gullies to cross. It was tremedous fun and we returned to our cars by a steam train. If anybody is interested in walking with and getting to know French walkers in the UK and in France through exchange visits or walking weekends and would like more details please phone Val on o1225 865097
