THE 97-year-old woman who died following a road traffic collision on the M4 early on Sunday has been formally identified.

Marian Armstrong, who lived in London but was born in Jamaica, was the front seat passenger in the Audi A4 which collided with a stationary Vauxhall Zafira between junction 15 Swindon East and junction 14 Hungerford at about 1am on Sunday.

Ms Armstrong had been travelling home to London after visiting her brother and other relatives in Bristol.

She was travelling in the car with her 59-year-old daughter in the back seat and her 60-year-old son-in-law, who was driving.

Her son-in-law remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, in a critical condition.

Her daughter was taken to Great Western Hospital in Swindon and is said to be stable.

An inquest into Ms Armstrong's death will be opened and adjourned.

Any witnesses to the collision should call Wiltshire Police on 101 and ask for Sgt Steven Love of the Roads Policing Unit.
