CHILDREN’S charity Barnardo’s has arranged a summer of fun for young people across Wiltshire including Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon.

The Wiltshire Holiday and Activities Club will focus on children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities, and activities will include swimming, sports, cookery, and cinema trips.

The charity is also offering separate clubs for children and young people with an autistic spectrum disorder, a youth club for teenagers and young adults and a music and drumming group.

Sessions are being held in Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon, as well as Salisbury, Devizes, Marlborough and Chippenham.

Barnardo’s children’s services manager Liz James said: “We’ve been successfully delivering short breaks services for disabled children and young people across Wiltshire for more than five years.

"We are delighted that this new contract will allow us to work with even more families in the years ahead.

“We hope our exciting programme of fun activities and new experiences will encourage children to build their confidence and enjoy a fulfilling social life as a member of their local community.”

The service is being provided thanks to a £674,000 three-year contract with Wiltshire Council and hopes to provide more than 1,400 hours of activities each year.

Laura Mayes, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “We’re funding this scheme because we believe it’s important that every child and young person in Wiltshire can enjoy a wide range of activities during the summer holidays.”
